(2010-02-20) After inauguration in 2009 this year's Atlantic Cup again will bring together four teams for one action-packed weekend of American Football. Soon after the first tournament with teams from four nations from Western Europe at Brussels had turned into a successful event the Irish federation signaled its interest to host Atlantic Cup II in summer 2010. Preparations for the tournament at the Irish capital of Dublin are already underway, and the schedule for the weekend of June 26/27 has been set.
Three of the four Atlantic Cup participants will be able to make their international debut at Dublin, as the Dudelange Dragons of Luxembourg are the only team that has played in Atlantic Cup 2009 as well. While the Dragons are the only team in their tiny country and thus were nominated automatically for the Luxembourg starting spot, the three other federations nominated different teams this year. This is very much in line with EFAF's intent in providing these regional tournaments like Atlantic Cup: to help as many teams as possible to gain international experience, getting used to a higher level of competition and building up international relationships. The Challenge Cup provides the same opportunity for teams from countries in Eastern Central Europe, and a current initiative by EFAF will lead to the installation of a similar tournament for the far-most Eastern part of the continent in 2010.
At Dublin reigning Irish champion Limerick Vikings will be facing Dudelange in the semifinals on June 26. The Vikings are determined to reach the final and continue the Irish quest to win an European trophy. Last year the Dublin Rebels just fell short in the final against West-Vlaanderen Tribes from Belgium, losing by a margin of two points. Limerick was responsible for the second defeat of the Rebels in a final game last year, when the Vikings won Ireland's championship final and beat the Rebels by 9-6 in overtime.
Belgium this year is represented by the Brussels Bulls, who will face the Lelystad Commanders from the Netherlands in the second semifinal of the Atlantic Cup. Lelystad comes out of a strong 2009 season with only one defeat, and even as this strong performance just earned the Commanders the promotion to the Dutch first division they clearly are one of the teams on the rise in their country. Now they are eager to make impact not only in league play at home, but are bound to make an impression on European level as well. And the Atlantic Cup is the appropriate event for fresh and young teams to enter the European stage.
Tijdens de Superbowl Party zondag 7 januari j.l. heeft Shaun Hill, QB van de San Fransisco 49ers, de eerste AFBN Polo Shirt in ontvangst genomen van Roy Smith, de voorzitter van de AFBN, als aandenken aan zijn bezoek aan Nederland.
Shaun Hill meldde dat zijn periode bij de Amsterdam Admirals in 2003 een”steppingstone” voor zijn NFL carriere is geweest. Ook meldde hij dat hij graag in de toekomst zijn bijdrage wil leveren in het verzorgen van clinics voor de AFBN.
Shaun Hill verblijft met zijn charmante vrouw Ashjo Lawrence tot 15 februari in Europa.
De AFBN wenst hun verder een prettig verblijf.
Na lang wachten is het dan eindelijk zo ver.
De wedstrijdcommssie heeft het wedstrijdschema bekend gemaakt voor het seizoen 2010.
In het competitie gedeelte van de site kunt u voor alle dit jaar te spelen disciplines de schemas vinden.
De AFBN is een bond die zich verder wil
ontwikkelen.
Daarbij is het Nationale team het visitekaartje.

Algemeen:
De AFBN wil de bekendheid van het American
Football in Nederland vergroten en de sport actief stimuleren.
Doelstelling AFBN:
Ontwikkeling van het niveau binnen en buiten de
Nederlandse competitie.
De Nederlandse Nationale Jeugd Flag Teams moeten
zich gaan meten met landen die aan het Europese eindtoernooi U-13 en U-15 FLAG
FOOTBALL deelnemen eind september 2010 in Rome-Italië.
Deze beide FLAG Teams zijn in 2008 Europees
Kampioen geworden in Frankrijk.
De Functie:
·
U organiseert samen met leden van het bestuur
trainingen en open dagen voor de selectie ten behoeve van de Nationale Jeugd
Teams U-13 en U-15.
·
U start een scouting programma op en treed in
overleg met lokale Coaches over de best te selecteren spelers.
·
U rapporteert 1x per maand aan het Bestuur of de
aangewezen Bestuursleden.
·
U stelt een coaching-staff samen voor de U-13 (2
personen) en U-15 (1 personen) in overleg met de aangewezen Bestuursleden.
·
De Bondscoach heeft de Algehele leiding en is
tevens Head Coach van de U-15.
·
Totale coachingstaf bestaat uit 4 personen.
Het Profiel:
·
De Bonds Coach mag verbonden zijn aan een vereniging.
Prioriteit moet wel liggen bij zijn werkzaamheden voor de Nationale Flag Teams.
·
Persoon met een visie op spelsystemen die passen
bij onze Jeugd spelers.
·
Ruime ervaring in het spel, waarvan minimaal 4
jaar als Coach.
·
Internationale ervaring als Flag Coach strekt tot
aanbeveling.
·
Bij voorkeur in het bezit van een EHBO of EHBSO
diploma of certificaat.
·
Bij voorkeur in het bezit van een auto en
rijbewijs B
·
Bewijs van Goed Gedrag en bewezen didactische
vaardigheden.
Het Aanbod:
·
Een boeiende (vrijwillgers) functie in een
dynamische sportomgeving.
·
Coach ontwikkeling door Internationale contacten
en wedstrijden.
·
Het Bestuur van de AFBN zal zorgen voor middelen
en steun bij verenigingen.
·
De aanstellingsperiode is voor het jaar 2010.
